Understanding Infill Patterns in 3D Printing
What is Infill?
Infill refers to the internal structure of a 3D printed object. Instead of printing solid objects (which would be heavy and expensive), 3D printers fill the interior with patterns that provide structural support.
Infill Percentage Guidelines
- 10-20%: Decorative items, display models
- 20-40%: General purpose parts with moderate stress
- 40-60%: Functional parts that need to handle some load
- 60-80%: Strong mechanical parts
- 80-100%: Maximum strength for critical components
