Resin printing (MSLA/SLA) uses liquid photopolymer resin cured by UV light layer by layer, while FDM melts plastic filament. The result: resin achieves 25–50 micron accuracy compared to 100–300 microns for FDM, with a perfectly smooth surface and no visible layer lines. The trade-off: resin costs more (0.30 JD/gram vs 0.07 JD/gram for PLA) and is more brittle than PETG or ABS under mechanical stress. The general rule: choose resin when visual precision and fine details are the priority — jewelry, dental models, figurines, and miniatures. Choose FDM when you need mechanical strength, larger build volumes, or cost efficiency for functional parts and prototypes.

Resin is priced at 0.30 JD/gram with a 0.50 JD base fee per order. A small piece such as a ring or earring (5–15 grams) ranges from 2 to 5 JD. A medium model such as a small figurine (30–80 grams) falls between 9 and 24 JD. Dental and medical precision models (20–60 grams) range from 6 to 18 JD. It depends on the resin type. FDA-approved dental resins are fully safe for intraoral use and are used to produce aligner models, temporary crowns, and surgical guides. Standard hobby resin used for jewelry and figurines may cause skin irritation on direct contact before it is fully cured. After complete UV post-curing, the resin is chemically stable and significantly safer. For any application touching skin, dental work, or medical use, please specify this when placing your order — we will select the appropriate resin grade and can provide material safety data sheets (MSDS). MSLA resin printers have a smaller build volume than FDM printers. Our standard resin build platforms reach approximately 19 × 12 × 20 cm per print. For larger models such as full figurines or detailed architectural models, we split the model into sections, print each part at full resolution, and bond them after printing — this preserves ultra-fine surface details across the full model. For models exceeding 50 cm, we recommend a hybrid approach: resin for detail-critical areas combined with FDM for the structural base, which significantly reduces cost while maintaining the visual quality where it matters.
